Shawn Michael Riley, 37, born June 15, 1977, in Belleville, Illinois passed away unexpectedly on March 19, 2015 at his residence.
Shawn had a passion for cars, from his first red Mustang convertible to his black Trans Am; he made an impression wherever he went. In his free time you could find him on his motorcycle or in the mud four-wheeling with friends. Cooking for his friends and family gave him great joy, especially anything with meat and cheese. He also enjoyed playing tennis, basketball, biking, and boating. He had a baseball hat and pristine shoes perfect for any occasion. Shawn was also an avid dog lover who was devoted to his pets Beau, Tyson, and Boots.
Shawn loved spending time with family and his many friends. He was a generous, kind, and loyal friend who was always quick with a joke or a prank to make people happy. He had a way of making everyone feel comfortable and included in a group; even if it meant you (or he) might be the target of good natured teasing. Many of his friends can share stories of how Shawn touched their lives in a special way. Shawn's infectious smile and laugh will be forever remembered in our hearts. "Those we love don't go away. They walk beside us every day. Unseen, unheard, but always near. Still loved, still missed and forever dear."
Shawn is preceded in death by his grandfathers, Dee Cobb, James Riley, and Rector "Jim" Brown and his grandmother, Peggy Riley.
Surviving are his grandmother, Frances Brown; mother, Meredith Riley; his father, Michael Riley; his sister Shannon Lenze (Eric); his nephews, James, Jack, and Rhys Lenze; his dear cousins, Wesley Keene (Stacy), Ginger Keene, Randa Windsor, Erica Hawthorne (Zachary), and Trey Keene; family friend Dave Dixon; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
Memorials may be given to the St. Louis Area Boxer Rescue or the Belleville Area Humane Society.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. on Monday, March 30, 2015 at Lake View Funeral Home, Fairview Heights, IL. A memorial service celebrating his life will follow at 7 p.m. in the funeral home chapel.
